02 October 2023

Mercedes-Benz of Weston-Super-Mare proudly helped the Girls on Track team on Monday 18th September where they hosted over 100 girls from 6 different schools over the day.

The Girls on Track programme is a joint initiative between the FIA and Motorsport UK. The events are to inspire girls and women into seeing and believing that there is a rightful and valuable place for them in the motorsports industry. The varied range of opportunities within the industry that there is something for everyone, regardless of your interests, gender and race. Girls on Track UK is an inclusive environment and welcomes all trans, non-binary, intersex, and gender fluid people who would like to be part of their community.

The programme offers girls aged 8-18 a unique opportunity to participate in the free Girls on Track events. The goal of their program is to inspire and encourage an interest in STEM subjects and industries amongst school girls, with the aim of increasing female participation in these sectors, using motorsport as a medium to expose them to the incredible opportunities and career paths.

On arrival at the dealership, the girls were met by Emily Davis, Star Expert with an introduction to the site and then went on to meet to the rest of the team.

On site for the day was the Mercedes-Benz AMG Petronas F1 show car, which was amazing for the groups of girls to see, our colleagues as well as visiting customers too. Alongside the F1 car there was also the new Mercedes-Benz EQE and Limited edition E63AMG on display.

The day consisted of visiting Weston’s Museum where the groups carried out lots of tasks, Lego robotics, fitness areas, changing wheels and then a talk on site around the F1 car, Incorporating the link from design and technology from F1 into the retail environment with efficiency of EQ and aero flow for more mileage on battery distance and many more technical aspects also.

The day also consisted of a site tour where the visitors had further insight into the dealership environment and all departments. Lots of questions asked along the way, and it was great to see the girls so interested in the Body Shop wheel lathe and aqua blaster.

The day finished back at the museum, but not before each of the girls received a handover gift which the dealership had arranged.

We are very proud of our teams getting involved and actively engaging in initiatives such as this and ‘Giving Back’ wherever we can.
