05 February 2024

Its National Apprenticeships week!

To celebrate we’ve spoken with our apprentices across the business in many different roles to find out more about their journey as an apprentice for Sytner Group

Hear from Jack below, an Apprentice Parts Advisor in our Ferrari Edinburgh site;

What has your apprentice journey been like with Sytner?

 My Apprentice journey has been rather smooth. In terms of from the point of when I applied for the Parts Apprentice position and through to the interview process to being successful it has been really good. From starting the position, I have been learning something new every day and taking on more duties and supporting the team.

I am fresh into the Apprenticeship and if it keeps going the way it is now it is going to be amazing. The Journey has been fantastic within the first month!

What made you apply for an apprenticeship role with Sytner?

 First and foremost, I applied because I wanted to get into the Motor Trade. I have always had all the way through growing up had a strong passion for cars as do my family.

I would classify myself as a very eager person and enjoy picking up new things and learning more about cars and how they work and the Parts that go into them.

The Apprenticeship was an ideal option for me to learn on the job and to gain the skills and experience and direct feedback on what is working and what isn’t and what I need to do to improve and develop.

That’s why I applied to kick start my career in the Motor Industry and to build my skills and progress my career further.

What advice would you give to someone looking to apply for an apprenticeship?

 Don’t shy away from excluding skills on your CV which you think are not relatable to the job role, there are a lot of things that you can transfer into a role within the Motor Trade. When I began to do research into the role and what I was applying for I realised there was a lot of transferrable skills from my previous employment out with the Motor Trade.

Do your research into the role and make sure it is something that you want to do and apply yourself to it. Do your research, include as many transferrable skills as you can on your CV and prepare for interviews and come in with the right attitude.

What is your favourite part of your apprenticeship/current role?

 I really enjoy when the Parts deliveries arrive every day. From them arriving to opening them up and seeing all the different Part’s and learning and following the Parts process. Each Part has its own location and number which interests me and making sure that that is followed through correctly and then and also putting them through the electronic system correctly and booking them in – I find that really enjoyable.

What is your greatest achievement?

During my time at school I was part of the indoor rowing team and helping my school’s team get Gold in the local School Championship.
